SKF bearings: identification, catalogue & comparison

Return to results ↑

SKF is a bearing and rotating-equipment manufacturer. Its range includes bearings and units, seals and lubrication products. BearingScope is an independent reference site: this page is not SKF's official website, a distributor listing or an inventory offer.

Choose the construction, then the model

SKF bearing types & model examples

Start with the bearing's construction, not just its diameter or brand. These source-backed examples connect a bearing type to actual SKF designations and recorded dimensions. They are lookup starting points, not a recommendation for an unspecified machine or a complete current catalogue.

SKF Angular contact ball bearings3 model examples

Contact angle, row count and pairing determine axial load direction and stiffness.

Before selecting a model
  • Compare contact angle, matched-set designation, preload, accuracy and back-to-back or face-to-face arrangement.

Comparison boundary: Contact angle, row count, matching and preload are part of the arrangement, not resolved by the nominal envelope. Preserve the full designation and suffix. Equal dimensions alone do not establish interchangeability; blank values remain unknown.

Construction & selection guide →
SKF Double row angular contact ball bearings3 model examples

Contact angle, row count and pairing determine axial load direction and stiffness. The examples in this section explicitly record double row construction; the qualifier is not inferred from the base number.

Before selecting a model
  • Retain the double row construction when narrowing candidates; similarly sized models with a different arrangement are outside this section.

SKF Ball bearings3 model examples

Ball bearings are a group of constructions, not one interchangeable design. Deep-groove, angular-contact and self-aligning bearings serve different arrangements; the exact type remains part of the lookup.

Before selecting a model
  • Identify whether the arrangement uses deep-groove, angular-contact or self-aligning construction.
  • Check the full marking, dimensions, closure and internal clearance on the individual record.
  • Use the row count and mounting arrangement from the exact model; do not infer them from the word ball.

Comparison boundary: The group name alone does not determine load direction, speed, accuracy or installation requirements. Preserve the full designation and suffix. Equal dimensions alone do not establish interchangeability; blank values remain unknown.

SKF Single row ball bearings3 model examples

Ball bearings are a group of constructions, not one interchangeable design. Deep-groove, angular-contact and self-aligning bearings serve different arrangements; the exact type remains part of the lookup. The examples in this section explicitly record single row construction; the qualifier is not inferred from the base number.

Before selecting a model
  • Retain the single row construction when narrowing candidates; similarly sized models with a different arrangement are outside this section.
  • Identify whether the arrangement uses deep-groove, angular-contact or self-aligning construction.

SKF Cylindrical roller bearings3 model examples

Rib arrangement determines axial location: NU, N, NJ and NUP are not functionally identical.

Before selecting a model
  • Check locating role, axial displacement, cage or full complement, minimum load and lubrication.

Comparison boundary: NU, N, NJ and NUP arrangements are not interchangeable solely because their envelope dimensions match. Preserve the full designation and suffix. Equal dimensions alone do not establish interchangeability; blank values remain unknown.

Construction & selection guide →
SKF Deep groove ball bearings3 model examples

A versatile radial bearing family with some axial-load capability; single and double rows differ.

Before selecting a model
  • Match envelope, load ratings, closure, clearance, cage, tolerance class and lubrication.

Comparison boundary: Open, shielded and sealed variants may share dimensions while closure, grease or clearance differs. Preserve the full designation and suffix. Equal dimensions alone do not establish interchangeability; blank values remain unknown.

Construction & selection guide →
SKF Needle roller bearings3 model examples

Small-diameter rollers provide a compact radial section; some designs run directly on a prepared shaft.

Before selecting a model
  • Specify with or without an inner ring, shaft hardness and finish, cage, seals and axial location.

Comparison boundary: Confirm whether an inner ring is supplied; an Fw value is not automatically a shaft bore d. Preserve the full designation and suffix. Equal dimensions alone do not establish interchangeability; blank values remain unknown.

Construction & selection guide →
SKF Roller bearings3 model examples

Roller-bearing searches include cylindrical, spherical, tapered and needle constructions. Start by identifying the roller geometry and whether the record describes a complete bearing or a component.

Before selecting a model
  • Distinguish a tapered bore from tapered rollers: they describe different features.
  • Check separable components, ring arrangement and the source dimension symbols.
  • Verify the individual load direction, mounting and lubrication requirements before comparing models.

Comparison boundary: The group name alone does not determine load direction, speed, accuracy or installation requirements. Preserve the full designation and suffix. Equal dimensions alone do not establish interchangeability; blank values remain unknown.

Explore bearing constructions →
SKF Self-aligning ball bearings3 model examples

Two ball rows and a spherical outer raceway accommodate limited shaft-to-housing misalignment.

Before selecting a model
  • Check permissible misalignment, radial load, available axial capacity, bore form and mounting sleeve.

Comparison boundary: A tapered bore may require an appropriate sleeve and mounting procedure; misalignment capability is model-specific. Preserve the full designation and suffix. Equal dimensions alone do not establish interchangeability; blank values remain unknown.

Construction & selection guide →
SKF Spherical roller bearings3 model examples

Self-aligning roller designs support substantial radial load and, depending on design, axial load.

Before selecting a model
  • Check cylindrical versus tapered bore, clearance reduction during mounting, permissible misalignment and cage.

Comparison boundary: Check straight versus tapered bore, cage and mounting arrangement. A tapered bore does not make this a tapered roller bearing. Preserve the full designation and suffix. Equal dimensions alone do not establish interchangeability; blank values remain unknown.

Construction & selection guide →
SKF Tapered roller bearings3 model examples

Cone and cup geometry determines the assembly; single-row bearings normally work in opposed arrangements.

Before selecting a model
  • Check the complete cup-and-cone pairing, assembly width T, contact angle, endplay or preload and load direction.

Comparison boundary: Cup and cone references, assembled width, contact geometry and setting must be checked as one arrangement. Preserve the full designation and suffix. Equal dimensions alone do not establish interchangeability; blank values remain unknown.

Construction & selection guide →

Dimensions retain their source labels: B is not automatically the same as assembly width T, ring width C or section height H. A component with no inner ring may specify Fw rather than a shaft bore d. These examples do not supply installation fits, approval for a machine, or a promised load/speed capability.

What to identify first

Start with the complete SKF marking, not just a familiar base number. A deep-groove bearing, a spherical roller bearing and a bearing unit use different installation dimensions even if they have the same shaft diameter.

25,926 records currently loaded here. This is BearingScope's coverage, not the manufacturer's entire catalogue. A missing result means a data gap in this website, not that the manufacturer has never made the product.

Find the correct catalogue record

The SKF product family and full designation are the keys to the correct data sheet. A general SKF catalogue or maintenance handbook is useful for interpreting terms, but a value from a different size or seal variant is not a substitute for the exact record.

Use the designation field above for the full marking, or enter bore d, outside diameter D and width B in mm. Leave unknown fields blank. A size chart can find candidates; it cannot establish material, precision or assembly compatibility by itself.

Read the SKF designation in context

These are interpretation notes, not a universal suffix crosswalk. Preserve every unrecognised code for exact-model verification.

Marking or fieldMeaning and limits
Base designationUse the base to discover related variants; keep the exact prefix, spaces and suffixes in the record you compare.
SealingFor the applicable deep-groove families, 2Z identifies shields on both sides; 2RS1 and 2RSH identify their respective contact-seal designs on both sides.
Internal clearanceC3 identifies a clearance group above Normal. It is not an ABEC accuracy grade and does not specify a shaft fit.
Complete recordCheck dimensions, load-rating basis, speed conditions, cage, grease and precision rather than assuming that one suffix describes the whole bearing.

SKF designation versus an automotive kit number

A vehicle kit identifier can describe more than a loose rolling bearing. Keep kit contents, axle position, sensor features and vehicle identification separate from an industrial bearing's d×D×B. A catalogue dimension match here is not vehicle-fitment approval.

Compare SKF with another brand

  1. Start with the complete designation and supplied component or assembly.
  2. Compare d×D×B in the same units; for separable bearings include the correct component and assembled dimensions.
  3. Check closure, clearance, cage, precision, material and lubrication. A blank field remains unknown.
  4. Compare load and speed figures on the same basis, then check the application's mounting and operating requirements.

Equal boundary dimensions identify a candidate, not an approved replacement. BearingScope does not rank whole brands or certify fitment.

SKF bearing lookup questions

Is this the official SKF catalogue or a shop?

No. BearingScope is an independent lookup and comparison reference. It does not sell bearings, quote prices, certify authenticity or claim to contain the manufacturer's complete current range.

Can I search by inside and outside diameter?

Yes, where corresponding product data is loaded. Enter known dimensions in mm in the search controls above. Add width and family to narrow the result. Measure the loose bearing's boundary dimensions, not a housing's mounting-bolt spacing. Keep uncertain readings separate from exact measurements.

Does a catalogue number prove that the bearing is genuine?

No. A plausible marking or a matching database record does not authenticate a physical item. Retain the full marking, packaging and lot identification for the manufacturer's verification process; neither a photograph nor a country name alone settles authenticity.

Where was my SKF bearing made?

The site does not have a verified factory/lot register. Brand identity and catalogue dimensions cannot establish an individual bearing's manufacturing origin. Check that item's traceability documentation; the missing origin is not filled from another model.

Can I download every SKF PDF or CAD drawing here?

No. Public lookup records and explanatory guides are not a complete document library. A drawing must match the exact model and revision and be permitted for redistribution. Where no such file is provided, the document request remains a data gap.

What if the full suffix gives no result?

Check the lettering, separators and component identity first. You may use the base number to discover related records, but do not remove the suffix from the part you ultimately compare. Record the missing full designation through the site's data-feedback page.
