Ring creep is relative movement between a bearing ring and its seat. It is different from rolling motion inside the bearing. Inspect both the ring seat and the shaft or housing; fitting a new bearing alone may leave the worn seat or unsuitable fit unchanged.
Use the illustration to locate the kind of feature being discussed, not to certify the condition of a real part.
Schematic: movement at the ring-seat interface, not the raceway.
Ring creep at the fit
Relative slip between a ring and its shaft or housing seat can leave shiny, worn or scored fitting surfaces.
Checks & easily confused patterns
Evidence to investigate
Measure the ring seat and mating component against the drawing. Review fit and sleeve-tightening records for the actual arrangement.
Do not infer from appearance alone
Internal bearing clearance is not the same as a loose shaft or housing fit. Adhesive or increased interference is not an automatic repair.
