Bearing test run after installation: establish a useful baseline
A controlled test run checks the assembled system, not just the bearing. Confirm the installation and follow the equipment's permitted startup sequence. Record speed, load, temperature, sound and vibration so later changes can be compared with a known operating point.

What the evidence can — and cannot — tell you
| Observation or context | Interpretation to consider | Verification needed |
|---|---|---|
| Before power is applied | Assembly completeness | Verify retention, lubrication, guards and clear movement where the procedure permits. |
| During permitted startup stages | Condition trend | Keep each observation tied to speed, load and elapsed time. |
| Abnormal noise, vibration or heating | Further operation may worsen damage | Use the approved shutdown process and investigate before restarting. |
Plan the work safely
Identify and record
Confirm the complete model and installation records, including any required fit, preload or clearance measurement.
Check the context
Set up approved instruments and alarm criteria before starting. Do not place hands or handheld probes near exposed rotating parts.
Verify before acting
Follow the manufacturer startup procedure and permitted duty stages. Machines that require a specific load or process condition must not be run unloaded just because a generic guide says so.
Keep the decision traceable
Save the baseline readings, lubricant details and startup outcome. Resolve abnormalities before declaring the installation accepted.
Capture the information a model search cannot guess
Keep this checklist with your inspection or comparison. Checking a box only records that you have collected the item; it does not certify the bearing.
