Tesla wheel bearing & hub reference: Model 3, Model Y and Model S

Compare source-scoped hub fastener requirements by model, manual edition and left-hand wheel position. Separate hub mounting bolts from halfshaft nuts, inspect replacement rules, and check the Model Y wheel-type restriction before assuming that a similar hub is interchangeable.

Which hub procedure are you checking?

Separate the hub-to-knuckle bolts from the halfshaft nut. Choose a model, manual edition and location; matching a manual profile is not a VIN or part-number fitment approval.

Important limits for this profile
  • The hub mounting bolts and the driven halfshaft nut are separate fasteners with different values and replacement rules.
  • The procedure names a hydraulic hub puller and a magnetic-field viewing card. A generic bearing press is not automatically a substitute.
  • A front/rear wording inconsistency in the source's lubrication step is not resolved by inference here; verify that step in the applicable manual.

Important limits for this profile
  • This is the RWD front-hub procedure. A halfshaft-nut value from the Dual Motor procedure is not added to this profile.
  • The manual asks for a tone-ring inspection before installation. A matching mounting envelope does not establish the encoder specification.

Important limits for this profile
  • The rear procedure includes electronic parking-brake service-mode requirements. This reference is not the full brake or lifting procedure.
  • Keep lubricant off the halfshaft splines. The manual's limited mating-face lubricant instruction is not a general instruction to grease the hub or splines.
  • A seized hub needs a different removal plan if proceeding would damage the halfshaft boot. Do not force a removal based only on the torque table.

Important limits for this profile
  • For this manual's 18-inch steel-wheel condition, read the part-family restriction below before selecting a hub.
  • A June 2026 revision changed the hub-bolt value to 85 Nm. This snapshot uses the current table, not the older 115 Nm value.
  • A magnetic pickup tool or parts tray can damage the bearing tone-ring pattern. The manual calls for a non-magnetic resting surface.
  • The rear procedure includes electronic parking-brake service-mode requirements. This reference is not the full brake or lifting procedure.

  • Air-suspension vehicles require the manual's Jack-mode setup before lifting. A manual edition is not a VIN-level applicability check.
  • The April 2026 revision says the rotor-retaining bolt does not need to be reinstalled; hub 1420121-00-A does not have its mounting hole. Do not turn the removal value into a universal installation requirement.
  • Preserve the tone-ring magnetic pattern and check the applicable post-work brake and alignment requirements.

  • This later Model S manual explicitly labels the hub bolts Reuse and the halfshaft nut Replace. Do not backfill those labels into the earlier Model S procedure.
  • The magnetic-field viewing card is used to inspect the tone ring. A bearing dimension alone cannot verify the encoder or vehicle fitment.
  • The procedure also covers brake-caliper fasteners and alignment checks; those separate requirements are not replaced by this hub-fastener reference.

Model Y 2025+ rear hub: wheel-type restriction

The reviewed rear-LH procedure gives the following part-family condition for steel versus alloy wheels. Its caution specifically addresses 18-inch steel wheels. The asterisk is a family prefix, not a complete orderable part number or a universal fitment approval.

Source editions, gaps and verification

Independently organized by BearingScope from Tesla's public service manuals, checked 2026-10-04. Source addresses, snapshots and row-level checks are retained in the private audit. Original published unit pairs are preserved; missing imperial values are not calculated and presented as source facts.

Still not established here: VIN-specific fitment, every model generation, RH procedures, Model S rear procedures, aftermarket interchange, bearing dimensions, diagnosis of an individual vehicle, or a complete safe repair sequence. “Not separated in heading” describes the source heading; it does not mean every drive configuration is approved.
