Bearing regreasing: identify the lubricant, dose and service limits
Regreasing is appropriate only when the assembly is designed for it. Identify the exact lubricant, quantity, interval and delivery path before adding grease. More grease is not automatically better, and an unknown lubricant should not be mixed on the assumption that colour or thickener name proves compatibility.

What the evidence can — and cannot — tell you
| Observation or context | Interpretation to consider | Verification needed |
|---|---|---|
| Sealed-for-life bearing | No routine replenishment may be intended | Check the product and machine instructions before opening seals. |
| Known serviceable grease system | A documented procedure is needed | Confirm dose, interval, purge path and machine state. |
| Unknown existing grease | Compatibility is unresolved | Identify the product or obtain an approved changeover procedure. |
Plan the work safely
Identify and record
Record the original lubricant product and required operating conditions. Keep base-oil viscosity, thickener and additive requirements separate.
Check the context
Clean the filling connection and use identified, clean dispensing equipment. Prevent cross-contamination between grease products.
Verify before acting
Apply only the equipment-specific procedure, including whether the machine must be stopped or running and any guarding requirements. Do not reach into moving equipment.
Keep the decision traceable
Record the amount, date and condition trend after service. Investigate an abnormal rise in temperature instead of repeatedly adding more grease.
Capture the information a model search cannot guess
Keep this checklist with your inspection or comparison. Checking a box only records that you have collected the item; it does not certify the bearing.
