Bearing standards: dimensions, precision, fits and clearance are separate
A standard can define a dimension series, tolerance class, calculation method or test condition. These are not the same claim. Preserve the standard number, edition and scope with a technical value instead of describing a bearing as simply ISO, DIN or ABEC compliant.

What the evidence can — and cannot — tell you
| Observation or context | Interpretation to consider | Verification needed |
|---|---|---|
| Boundary dimensions | Nominal envelope | Does not establish internal geometry or interchange approval. |
| Bearing precision class | Specified accuracy characteristics | Does not define lubricant, noise, speed or service life by itself. |
| Shaft/housing fit and internal clearance | Different interfaces and measurements | A seat tolerance is not a bearing-ring accuracy class. |
A practical investigation sequence
Identify and record
Identify the quantity the user needs: nominal dimensions, tolerances, clearance, load rating or a calculation result.
Check the context
Read the recorded manufacturer's original class and any documented mapping. Retain the mapping's limited bearing-family scope.
Verify before acting
Use the corresponding size, precision, clearance or fit tool instead of substituting one table for another.
Keep the decision traceable
Where a requirement names a particular edition or certification, obtain that actual document or certificate. An explanatory webpage does not certify compliance.
Capture the information a model search cannot guess
Keep this checklist with your inspection or comparison. Checking a box only records that you have collected the item; it does not certify the bearing.
